| UF President attended the China-USA University Presidents Roundtable Meeting in Beijing Beijing, China -- Dr. Bernie Machen, the President of the University of Florida, participated in the China-USA University Presidents Roundtable Meeting in Beijing. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Margaret Spellings, the US Secretary of Education, and Mr. Ji Zhou, the Minister of Education of China, and was participated by more than 10 presidents of major universities from each side. The university presidents discussed about a wide range of issues related to international educational collaboration. All presidents expressed strong interests in promoting research and education collaborations among the universities from the two countries. Dr. Machen also had an individual meeting with Professor Binglin Gu, the President of the Tsinghua Unviersity, and discussed about possible collaborations between UF and Tsinghua. The two presidents reached a verbal agreement on establishing joint research programs and an administrator training program.
